Ask for wisdom

Memorize: James 1:5

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Read: Proverbs 4:1-7

Every parent enjoins his child to be wise. But wisdom is not a commodity anyone picks up from the shelf. It is not obtained from college either. Many have University degrees and are not wise. Some equate wisdom with common sense whereas it is not. As wisdom is the right application of knowledge, it is true that to be wise, there is need to be knowledgeable. Wisdom is in actual sense, the ability to discern inner qualities and relationships. As there is no art for finding the mind’s construction on the face, effort to get wisdom by human swerves and persuasion is a wild goose chase. God is the only wise and He alone has the capacity to give/endow wisdom. But how?

Scriptures confirm that Jesus Christ is the power and the wisdom of God. It follows that if anyone needs wisdom, he should first find Jesus. Scriptures further confirm that it is the Holy Spirit that understands the deep things of God and since wisdom is the ability to discern inner qualities, then the Holy Spirit is required in obtaining wisdom. You cannot however get to the Holy Spirit without first acknowledging Christ. The reason is that unless you know and acknowledge Christ who is the gift of God to the world, you cannot access the Holy Spirit. It is after receiving Christ that you can access the Holy Spirit who is the gift of God to the saints. In short, once you can access the Holy Spirit, if you desire wisdom, all you need do is ask the Father in the name of the Son praying in the Holy Ghost. It is God Himself that says we should ask and it shall be given unto us.

The flip side is that anyone who lacks wisdom is referred to as a fool. Throughout the scriptures, the fool is not spared from being one who aims at calamity for himself. Foolishness is not acknowledging God. Such people give themselves to vain thoughts and minds and are prone to disaster in the hands of the enemy as well as eternal damnation.

Doing things in disobedience to God’s commands is foolishness. Negating the counsel of God and entreating others to do the same is foolishness. It is one thing to disobey God, it is another to make other “little ones” to also fall. God’s judgment on such is not simple. The option to choose is wisdom. Ask for it from God today.

Pray: Ask God to please reveal the power in the resurrection of Christ to you today; ask for the Holy Spirit to come into your life; pray God to grant you wisdom that transcends the world that you may serve Him better than those who are before you. Pray in Jesus name.
