Key verse: Matthew 5:48
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Acts 10: 1-6.
God has a standard and He is not likely to lower the same for anyone who ought to know. When Abraham walked haphazardly before Him, He cautioned and directed him to be perfect. When Christ walked the face of the earth, He gave a clear command and not just a counsel: Be Perfect. Yet in the twenty first century we have people who claim to be Christians still claiming all “my righteousness is like filthy rags”. After salvation? What are we taught from the Gospel of Christ? Is it not that anyone in Christ is now to live by the righteousness of Christ and lean on Him until he grows to the stature of the fullness of Christ? These ones, it will appear, lack understanding of that which they profess. Truth be told, the word of God affirms that two cannot walk together except they be agreed simply because there is no relationship between God and Belial. The one who refuses to strive towards perfection is of Belial. When God sees your heart as one striving to fulfil His command, He sends help to you to fill the place where you are lacking. Ask Cornelius. But if you decide to remain like filthy rags, He is not able to walk with you because He needs not be slowed down by your adamancy.
God will not ask of us what is unattainable. He is not a taskmaster. Before He would say be perfect, He knows we can be perfect. It is in our perfection that all the things that will glorify us lie. If we refuse perfection, which is the absolute prosperity of our souls, we cannot be assisted beyond the level of the prosperity of our souls. Don’t be deceived by the fact that you own a house, albeit under mortgage, or that you ride a leased car that seems beautiful. There are heights we are yet to see that only our perfection can take us. Let’s stop all the cheeky affairs and the mockery of the things of God we engage in by applauding the filthy ways of others. Let’s stand firm for God by abstaining from iniquity for all eyes to see. Let the world see that we stand out and know us for who we are.
Christ lived as our example of perfection. From today, let His ways set the pace for ours. Never again do a thing Christ would not do or approve. Anytime you set to say or do something, pause and check whether Christ will approve the same before doing it. Be perfect. God is counting on you.
Pray: Father, I want to be like you. Help me to walk in perfection for the rest of my life so that I may never fail you in the name of Jesus Christ.
