Follow God’s Unchanging Truth

Focus: Jeremiah 6:16 KJV - Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

Today’s prompt to us from the Lord is to stop rushing down the wrong road and assess where our life is heading. To do this, we are to look back to the timeless, proven truths of God's word and the faithful examples of the past. We are not to just admire the truth but actively live it out. Doing this brings ultimate rest for our souls. Tragically, most believers today, are not keen on searching the scriptures to learn from the things the Lord had done in the past, neither are they keen on following the paths of God.

When Caleb and eleven other spies went to scout out Canaan, ten of them came back with a terrifying report about giants. The entire nation panicked and decided they wanted to abandon God's plan, appoint a new captain, and go back to Egypt. They essentially said, we will not walk therein. Caleb (alongside Joshua) stood before the rebellious crowd. He chose the old path, the path of absolute trust in the God who had already split the Red Sea and delivered them from Pharaoh. God explicitly noted that Caleb had a completely different spirit than the rebels and had followed Him fully. Because of their rebellion, that entire generation died in the wilderness over 40 years. But Caleb survived. At 85 years old, Caleb was still as strong and faithful as ever. He finally claimed his mountain inheritance in Hebron. Caleb literally found rest for his territory and his soul. 

Walking in the old paths means following God fully, even when we have to walk completely alone. It requires incredible courage. It means anchoring yourself to God’s timeless promises even when 99% of the people around you decide to walk a different, faithless way. In the end, the crowd's modern shortcuts led to a wilderness graveyard, but Caleb's old path led straight to inheritance and rest. Also, no matter how much the culture around us shifts or decays, God's ancient paths of truth, holiness, and obedience remain the only road to peace. When we choose to look back at God’s timeless principles and walk in them, our souls find true rest.

Prayer:

Father, I thank you for being a trustworthy God. Help me never to flinch at your promise ever again and teach me to draw my decisions based on reliance on your past deeds. Never allow me to panic in the face of hardship thereby exalting the enemy above your person. From today, let your being be forever magnified in my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
