Focus: Proverbs 23:26 - KJV
26. My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
Acts 13:22
God is one who is particular about the heart and not necessarily the stature of human beings, for the heart is the receptacle from where actions originate. In the same manner, God’s heart dictates His actions and ways. God is love and therefore His ways are the ways of love. For us to also imitate and follow the ways of God, we must ensure that we give our hearts to God to control. Once the heart is in surrender unto God, it is not difficult to observe the ways of God, through scriptural expositions, and thereby imitate the ways we see. When we follow the ways of God, we are not likely to offend in our ways particularly because we have given our hearts to Him for His control. No wonder the Bible says the ways of the just are ordered by the Lord.
David was a man of whom God Himself testified, of being a man after God’s own heart. When it was time to replace Saul who, rather than follow God’s ways, was about himself, God told Samuel expressly, that He does not look like men do: although men look at the outward appearance, He looks at the heart. Once the heart is right and in tandem with the heart of God, then the man is approvable of Him. For David to have been approved, it is that he surrendered his heart to God such that he does nothing outside the instruction of God. And, before he sets out to do anything, he first checks the Lord’s ways so as to stay therein. This was what played out in Ziklag, and also, when he was a fugitive and had opportunity to smite Saul. His refusal to smite Saul because of the anointing, was for reckoning that the Lord had said ‘touch not mine anointed’.
Beloved, many today do not care what the position of God is in their circumstance, and yet want to rule and reign, in their situation. It does not work like that. No one can mock God. We cannot want to gain from the Lord whilst walking in darkness and against Him. There is no way we continue in sin and expect grace to abound. That which we do, that are oblivious to the ways of God are done based on our own selfish lust, and God is not in control of our hearts in same. The result we have, when we do not surrender our hearts unto God, is based on our wishful thoughts, like Saul. How can the Lord say give to a person something and you decide you will give it to another, and expect God to still back you up? If we submit our hearts to Him and put our eyes on His ways as set out in scripture, there is no way we will not succeed in our ways.
SOLUTION: Set your eyes on the ways of the Lord, even as you surrender your heart to Him. Emulate God in His ways which you can truly find in Christ’s ways on earth. Submitting your heart to God is accepting His lordship. No one says to his lord, “you can’t control me”. Hence, yield to God’s commands and control, always.
Please pray: Father, as I put my eyes on your ways from today, help me never to lose focus again, in Jesus’ name. Take my heart and let it be forever consecrated to you, so that my actions will flow from the heart which you control, in Jesus’ name.
