Honor With Understanding

Focus: Psalms 49:20 - KJV

20. Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.

Psalms 49:1-20

Honor is good; it projects someone to wealth, respect and power. However, like Christ once said, it will be much easier for the camel to go through the eye of the needle than for the rich to enter into the Kingdom. Yet, it is the Lord that teaches us to get wealth. Where then is the missing link? Many have possessions but lack understanding, which is the basis for their not being qualified for the Kingdom. It is understanding that makes the rich realize that whatever he has, is not his; but given to him as a trustee, for the needy. Rather than use it for the desired beneficiary, the honored often use it to seek pleasure, at the expense of the beneficiary. When this happens, they become guilty of not loving their neighbors as themselves, and thereby fail to keep the Lord’s saying. How then can they expect to enter into the Kingdom, if not only by some extraordinary grace?

It is possible to ask: why do the poor also die and not get transited like Elijah? It is unfortunate that the operation of the rich is ordinarily oppressive to the poor. An oppressed poor is not likely to pray for his oppressor, but curse under his breath, from time to time, as he is full of bitterness. He also is not keeping the Lord’s saying in that he fails to pray for them that despitefully use him. Understanding lies in love. He who loves his neighbor like himself, will not build a house and keep it to the exclusion of others believing only his offspring would be entitled to use it. The word of God is that such people are like the beasts that perish.

Beloved, there is nothing in the world that is worth hanging on to, but the word of God. Only those who stay in His word would fulfil their purpose on earth. The entirety of the word of God is premised on love. If only we will be careful to abide in love, then are we able to live life with great understanding and triumph. Our triumph is not in gold and silver, or the extent to which we can gather or acquire wealth to ourselves. Indeed, on the contrary, amassing wealth without understanding, is the enemy’s bait to eventual destruction. The Lord laid for us precedents in scripture: Israel was to take only enough of manna and not stack with greed; Jesus took only enough gold coin from the mouth of the fish, to meet His need at the time. Christ is our example; let us emulate Him.

SOLUTION: Live every day fulfilling love. Never allow lust to draw you away from obeying the injunction on love. That which we acquire beyond our need end up perishing or taken over by people who do not even care about us. What we give in love, is seed sown which will never perish. Acquire honor as trustee for those in need, only.

Please pray: Father, thank you for entrusting the wealth of others into my hands that I may be valuable unto them. Lord, please help me never to mismanage the trust assets in Jesus’ name. Open my eyes to the places I should use such assets, to fulfil love always, in Jesus’ name. In all, do not let me ever lack honor, that I may continue to be of service to others, in Jesus’ mighty name.

Kindly share with others if you have been blessed by this Guide. God bless you as you do so, in Jesus' name.
