One body in Christ

Key verse: 1 Corinthians 12:25-26

25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. 26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

Read: 1 Corinthians 12:20-30

The anatomy of the human body reveals that every distinct part of the body has its own specific role that allows the body to function effectively as it should. As menial and seemingly less important as a finger may appear, when one finger is infected with a whitlow, the entire body is almost completely out of function for as long as the pain lasts. The same is every member of the Church. The Church is the body of Christ. Every member thereat is of great significance. The shepherd is relevant just as the flock. Unless there be students, the Sunday School teacher is worthless. Unless there is the congregation to sing to, the function of the choir is diminished. It behoves everyone therefore to count the other important and therefore worthy of good treatment.

Everyone that is in the Church is drawn of God. That man that sits albeit carelessly at the back of the congregation may be the great Evangelist in the hands of God to many nations. Your treatment of him today determines if he will be available to fulfil that purpose soon. When Saul of Tarsus was converted, and brought by Ananias to join the Church, the brethren were skeptical about him and wanted to treat him like a sore thumb not knowing he is the one appointed to open the gentile world to the Gospel. The Lord has brought His Church together so that each one of us as members of the body may complement one another. When there be schism in the body how can it function optimally? Let each member know his calling and function in it, not envying or deriding the calling or function of the other. Stop the gossip, backbiting, pull them down syndrome and what have you. They are signs of the world. When you so deride your “brethren” how well do you think you can function?

Today, some agents of the devil are full of negative words about the Church because the members are not united and there are things open to the world to talk about. When the body functions well together, there is good health. As a member of the body of Christ, go and do that to which you are assigned properly so that it complements the functioning of others and not to deter or debar them. God is counting on you.

Pray: Father, I want to be a pillar in your Church and not a scatter-pillar. Help me to function maximally in the role you have created for me in Jesus name.
