Perfect love

Memorize: 1 John 4:19

We love him, because he first loved us

Read: 1 John 4:11-20.

In this new year, the Lord expects us to walk uprightly in all our doings so that we may take the full benefit of His being our Father. All He desires is that we be like Him so that we may also start to manifest His powers. God loves us. And He so does despite our terrible state. Whilst we were yet sinners, He died for us.

It is common nowadays for people to get angry and detest others based on the way they see those others. But God, even though He knew our dirty state, refused to forsake or detest us but drew us and is still drawing those that care to yield from darkness and filth into His marvelous light and purity. He expects us also to show the same kind of love to everyone around us.

We are to love Him that first loved us. But we cannot claim to love Him whom we cannot see when we do not love those around us whom we see. When we extend hatred to anyone, it will hurt the fellow most expectedly, but then the same hatred comes to hurt us also in the end. But for what can anyone say of another, “I don’t want to have anything to do with him again”? Only God has such power of absolutism and such should not be heard of from any mere mortal. Since love covers a multitude of sin, the Lord expects us to dispel any canker in our hearts by loving still in spite of. That is perfect love.

What is important is this: it is love that determines where you end up in the end of your earthly sojourn. Your unforgiveness, vengeful habits, detesting mien, bitterness etc. shall all speak at the end of the time and they are going to stand as barrier in the day of judgment. Which is why the Lord is guiding us to love perfectly throughout this year and on. Will you heed?

Pray:

Father, I know that you know how difficult it is to love those who hate us; but because you have been there and yet hated no one, please give me the grace to be absolutely like you in love, in Jesus name.

It is really difficult loving those who spitefully use us. Some even deliberately hurt us and expect us to forgive them. Lord, help me be like you, one day at a time. Thank you for this devotion sir.
