5. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2 Timothy 3:1-9
It is a common trend to see people claim they are of the Lord and behave in ways that are quite inimical to godliness. Many carry the toga of being Christians without being Christianly in any of their ways. When you ask, an average person says there is nothing impossible with God. But even the person that makes such claim will not lean on prayers alone for the cure of a headache until he guzzles down some analgesic. It is about having a form of godliness and denying the power thereof. It is truly not their fault for even teachers of the faith are confused and are therefore leading the people astray. For instance, the position of God is that we love our neighbors like ourselves. Unfortunately, even in Christian gatherings, it is now common place for the priest to suggest to the congregants to say to their neighbors: “my miracles shall be more than yours”. That is introduction of rivalry (and therefore wickedness) into the body. It is part of the signs of the end as predicted by scripture. The roar of the congregants is to evince the fact that they are now made to in self-love as against being lovers of God and the things of God. They are led to think about their welfare alone and not godliness or fulfilling the purpose of God. The mind of God is not necessarily how you will eat, be healthy etc. as taught by these supposed teachers of the word. Rather, we are to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness for every other thing to follow by itself.
Are you one of them whose mind is on how you will eat, drink or attain a particular level? As good as it is for you to attain heights, it ought not to be at the expense of godliness but as a result of it. The reason those things we pursue are almost always out of reach is that we are constantly pursuing the wrong things. When we do the will of God, He makes all things work together for our good. All Peter needed to do was gather in the fish after he had lent himself to the purpose of the Kingdom. The fish he had been pursuing, got directed into his net freely willy.
SOLUTION: The times had been predicted but we don’t have to be the evidence of the evil of the time. Let us do the will of God by being true lovers. Let us desist from pride, covetousness, blasphemy and all the likes that depict the flesh and rather manifest always the fruit of the Spirit to evince our being truly of God.
Father, we know that in the end times perilous times are meant to come. Whatever it is that will make us revert to our vomits, please do not let it happen to us in Jesus’ name. By your power, help us to appreciate that we ought to love you more and lust no more after the flesh in Jesus’ name. From this day, please make us true believers in you and affirm the powers behind our belief in Jesus’ name.
