Serve God Acceptably

Focus: Hebrews 12:28-29 - KJV

28. Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: 29. For our God is a consuming fire.

Hebrews 13:8-16

Not every service is acceptable unto God. In the days of old, for the High Priest to go into the holy of holies to serve God on behalf of the people, a chain was tied round his waist just so that in case he falls down dead therein, he may be dragged out with the chain. Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron were priests of God but they offered strange fire before God and were knocked dead. Uzzah had the heart to serve God which was why he stretched out his hand to prevent the Ark from falling when it appeared to have stumbled but he was struck dead for doing so. We can go on and on. The reason these things happened is that the eyes of God do not behold iniquity, and God will not pretend to be in fellowship with an iniquitous being. Hence, it is not just anybody that can present himself or be presented for the service of God. While they are in their affairs appearing to be of God, the Lord is not in their actions and gymnastics to bless it. It is when they attempt to put their iniquities in God’s face that they get struck.

Nonetheless, through the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ, we have been washed of all our blemishes and given a Kingdom that cannot be moved, whereby we can boldly approach the throne of grace, crying unto God, Abba Father, as we are His children. Of course, our approach is only acceptable if done with reverence and godly fear. For the one whom we approach is not a being we can insult or be rude to. Rudeness is putting that which He detests in His face. How can a person rise from a fornicating couch and mount the podium to claim he is serving the Consuming Fire? How on earth does anyone stand to serve God and dwell on lies? These things do not add up and draw harsh consequences. Moses, the friend of God had served God for long making mistakes along the line, but was tolerated as he remained in fellowship of sort. When he rendered a vital unacceptable service, he was rejected. What makes us assume we will be accepted continually when we do not revere or fear God as we serve Him?

Dearly beloved, the Lord is issuing to us today this guidance that we may recognize Him for who He is – the Consuming Fire. Never again should we, with filth, attempt to serve God. Yes, we can first seek His mercy and when we are certain of being restored, we can render service acceptably. God is long-suffering and did not allow us to be stricken in those days we appeared before Him to serve while in filth. He has endured this long, taking our ignorance into account. He is no longer willing to continue to receive our insults and messing up and that is why He is asking us to tow a new line from now on. We already have unfettered access if we will remain pure. Going with impurity to the presence of God is an insulting act which God may no longer condone. That is why He has shown us the experience of others that we may learn from it.

SOLUTION: The word of God is for those who bear the vessels of the Lord to be holy. Let holiness be your watchword if you must serve the Lord. The Lord desires your service; He will rather be without it than have you insult Him with filth. Be holy.

Please pray: Lord, I thank you for granting me access into your Kingdom and presence by the blood of Jesus. I plead today, do not let me lose my access card ever in Jesus’ name. As I purpose to serve you reverently and, in your fear, help me never to fail that I may not be consumed in your fire, in Jesus’ name.

If you are blessed by this post, kindly share with your contacts, as well as others, that they may be blessed also. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly as you do so, in Jesus’ name.
