Key verse: Exodus 23:25
And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.
Deuteronomy 8:18-20
To serve God is to obey Him and do whatever He commands. Incidentally, one of the things He commands is that man, above all His other earthly creatures, should serve Him only, to the exclusion of all others. Prior to Moses’ return to Egypt, after having been a fugitive for forty years, Egypt experienced a good turn in that the Egyptians needed not labor for anything as they had the Hebrews as slave to carry out the needful in the land. However, upon his return, Moses came with a message for the Hebrews and for Pharaoh the king of Egypt that the Hebrews must leave the land to serve their God. Pharaoh’s refusal caused a great downturn in Egypt that brought about ten plagues which affected livestock, plants, the waters, the land, the people generally and all the first born in the land particularly before consuming the whole Egyptian army. For a long time after, it is doubtful that Egypt had peace. That for the ones who did not serve and constrained others from serving the living God.
Israel however, did not partake of the gloom that Egypt experienced, though they were present in the land when the woes happened. The reason for this was that they were of the mind to serve God and so the Lord separated them for His blessing and protection from all evil including sicknesses. There is a guarantee from the Lord for everyone that shall serve Him to bless their bread and their water. What that means is that, like He blessed five loaves and it multiplied to feed five thousand men, anyone whose bread He blesses will never hunger as he will live in surplus. When Elisha blessed the water of Jericho, it was cured from its bitterness and sickness was taken away from the land. When God is served and He blesses our water, bitterness is removed from our land and we become free from sicknesses.
It is indeed a crime not to serve God but it is a worse crime to prevent others who are willing to serve Him from doing so. Some today are full of negativity against those who serve the Lord. They say every terrible thing on social media and so on just to discourage others from serving God. They claim the service of God is a lie. Even if it be so, which is denied, how is it their business? If you are one of them, please desist quickly and turn to the Lord so that He may bless you. Don’t invite the negative side. It is damning.
Pray: Father, I want to serve you forever. Please help me to do so in Jesus name.
