Text: Romans 12:3
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith
Read: Judges 16:14-21
The Lord has been able to achieve great exploits through you among men. Give all the glory to Him. Without Him you can do nothing. It is baffling to find like Samson, that some people still ascribe in this day, their achievements and progress to their prowess and intellect. How so wrong! But what is man that he thinks so highly of himself? Is man no longer dust and manure that aids the growth of plants in the end?
Brother Paul enjoins us not to think so highly of ourselves. This is great counsel for those who must excel in life. Samson forgot that it was not his muscles that endowed him but the Spirit of God. He realized albeit too late that once the Spirit is grieved and separated from one, the fellow becomes empty, powerless and so ordinary. Indeed, he becomes a toy in the hands of his enemies over whom he was champion hitherto. Yes, it is a sorry state. But are you not also beckoning on same with your current state of mind? Have you forgotten so soon that the race is not for the swift and that time and chance worked for you to get to where you are? Have you also forgotten that the one who raised you up has the capacity also to demote? May He not demote you in Jesus name.
You must however, reckon with the Word of God: think soberly, according to the measure of faith God has given you. Stop behaving like you are God over any being. It has the tendency to invoke the wrath of God. Stop lauding things over those that are not as privileged as you are. Please treat them with love and let God be glorified in your actions.
There is danger in overrating oneself. It will appear to a casual reader that Samson was not overrating himself in wanting to arise like before judging from the exploits of the past. But then, he was already disconnected from the Source of his power. Be careful. Don’t get disconnected like Samson. Be sober.
Pray: Father, who can really thrive and succeed on earth without your Spirit? I hold on to you Lord. Baptize me anew with your Spirit of power and I will forever glorify you in Jesus name.
