Focus: Psalms 59:17 - KJV
17. Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.
Exodus 15:1-19
There is no gainsaying that but for the Lord’s mercy, we all would have been consumed. When David was to confront Goliath, it was glaring to the observers that it was a mismatch. It could only have been God that made it possible for Goliath to lose his head to David. Israel was a nation of feeble slaves when God took them by the hands of Moses out of servitude in Egypt. Side by side with the ferocious Egyptian army, they stood no chance of survival. But for the Lord, Pharaoh and his hosts, in anger of the plagues that befell Egypt would have slaughtered Israel at the brink of the Red Sea; but God’s mercy happened to them and they were the ones standing while the corpses of the Egyptians first sank deep into the sea and subsequently floated for all eyes to see.
Every day we wake up and see the sun rise, it is not because there have not been battles encountered or dangers averted. These battles and dangers were scaled like hurdles only by the mercy of God. If the Lord should take His cover away from us as individuals, family or nation, the devastation we would suffer will be indescribable. It is just because of the mercy of God, and His decision not to leave or forsake us, that we alive. Hence, if we be thoughtful, we need to appreciate this our God and sing praises unto His holy name in appreciation of His loving kindness and mercy. Moses could not do otherwise than to burst into praises of the name of God when he experienced real victory at the Red Sea. Miriam did not think the song of Moses was enough when she also gathered the women to sing praises unto God, for He indeed, deserves it.
It seems the reason many do not consider it worthwhile to sing praises unto God is because they do not see physical defense from God or any enemy slaughter by Him on their behalf. Meanwhile, it is true that sufficient for each day is the evil thereof. If only the Lord would open our eyes to see warring angels fighting our battles or defending us like He opened the eyes of Elisha’s servant, then would we realize that we have lived for too long in ingratitude and devote quality time to singing praises unto the Most-High God.
SOLUTION: Set aside quality time to praise God for His mercy over your life on a daily basis. Extol Him for all the unseen battles He has seen you through. Give Him quality praise today.
