The Joy Of Wickedness Does Not Last

Focus: Job 20:4-5 KJV - Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth, That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

Evil rulers, corrupt individuals, and oppressors may achieve massive success, power, and dominance. However, their victories are fleeting on the timeline of eternity. A hypocrite wears a religious or moral mask to deceive others while harboring rot on the inside. Their superficial happiness and worldly praise disappear in an instant when God's judgment exposes the truth.

Haman was elevated by King Ahasuerus above all the other princes of his empire. He was so powerful that everyone was commanded to bow down to him. When the queen invited only him and the king to a private banquet, Haman went forth joyful and with a glad heart. He bragged to his family about his immense wealth, his many children, and his unmatched political status. Beneath his royal robes and sophisticated titles, Haman was a deceptive, malicious hypocrite. He tricked the king into signing a decree to genocide the entire Jewish population, framing it as a matter of national security when it was actually fueled by a personal, petty grudge against a Jewish man named Mordecai who refused to bow to him. Haman even built gallows to hang Mordecai on. Haman's triumph evaporated in less than 24 hours. At the next banquet, Queen Esther exposed Haman’s wicked plot to the king. In an instant, Haman’s prideful joy turned into absolute terror. In the end, Haman suffered the calamity he prepared for innocent Mordecai.

Haman’s story proves that no matter how secure, wealthy, or joyful the wicked seem to be, their foundation is built on sinking sand. God sees through the mask of the hypocrite and the arrogance of the oppressor. When evil seems to be winning in the world, we can rest assured that its triumph is strictly temporary, and God's justice will always have the final word. Check your life today. Eschew wickedness. If you operate in it, and you appear somewhat triumphant at the moment, watch it as it definitely is the devil’s trap towards ultimate destruction. Salvation lies in your urgent repentance.

Prayer

Thank you, father for constant victory over the wicked and their ways. In every way that man is wickedly oppressing me, please dethrone every such oppressor today. Do not allow the scepter of the wicked to continue to prevail over my life. Like you arose for Mordecai, please arise for me. And, if there be any form of wickedness in my hands that may forestall your rising on my behalf, please wash the same with the blood of the Lamb. Let me laugh last against all my oppressors, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
