Focus: John 4:34 - KJV
34. Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
John 5:30
When Satan came to tempt Jesus with a view to making Him offend the father and become subservient unto himself, Jesus reminded him that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, as it is written in scriptures. Affirming that, when He should be hungry and His disciples went to fetch bread for Him to take as His meat, He made it abundantly clear that His meat was to do the will of the one who sent Him and to finish the work. Hence, for Christ, the flesh is not to be fed when the spirit is hungry. Anytime the word of God demands action of the believer, he is expected to put aside every other thing and attend to the things of God first, just like Christ did.
God is looking to us, if truly we are Christlike, to put aside everything that contends with the work of God in our hands. Whether it be giving to the poor, or to the work of evangelism, or preaching to cause a soul to be won to Christ, or anything that is directed of God. We are to attend to that which the Lord directs and ensure completion before bathing an eye in any way, for the King’s business requires haste. Those who had left the assignment till a subsequent time have had themselves to blame in the end as they discovered they accomplished little. Ask Joshua. He needed to be nudged and reminded age was no longer on his side. Like Christ, let us therefore be focused on the things that God directs us to do before attending to those other things that do perish. Fleshly meat, when consumed perishes, in that it is disposed as dung; but God’s meat inures forever, it never perishes.
SOLUTION: Be urgent in doing the assignment committed to you by God and ensure you finish it for it is only then that we truly fulfill destiny. Stop procrastinating over God’s work.
Please pray:
· Thank God for keeping you alive and well till today. It is only because of it that there is hope you can still do His work
· Ask Him to forgive you for those days you did not take His work as your meat thereby allowing it to linger
· Pray for the strength and encouragement of the Holy Spirit to do that which the Lord wants you to do every day of your life from today, so that you may finish well
· Ask God to supply your needs so that you may not be distracted by it as you pursue the real meat
· Tell God to lift that burden that is weighing you down currently. Itemize them to Him
