Focus: Matthew 5:44-45 - KJV
44. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45. That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Luke 23:33-38
The person of God has been misrepresented through the ages. Many have ascribed to God characters that do not depict Him, just like Job’s friends. Incidentally, those guilty of doing so are people who have made contact with Him, or are assumed to have. Hence, whatever they say of Him, appears to stick with men since they believe they should know. For example, who can ever say what Moses said regarding the character of God can be faulted? But here was Christ, the only begotten of the Father who knows Him the most, saying to us that the things Moses taught the people about God does not depict God. Now, a true son takes attributes from his father. If we are truly of the father, we should resemble Him in character.
In having a clearer perspective of this, we should take a look at Christ Himself who is of the Father. He never told us to do what He didn’t. He says we should pray for the enemy and not avenge ourselves. True to type, when He was mesmerized by mere mortals, He rather prayed for their pardon and not their destruction. That is the trait of the father. Some say, but God is a Consuming Fire. True that. But He reserves that attribute to Himself alone and for the day of “judgment”. That which is so called is actually the day of sentencing as the devil and the falling angels as well as every man that decides to be like them challenging the authority of God, are judged already. When the Lord shall come to pour His wrath on sinners, He is sentencing and not judging them.
Think about it, if God never consumed the devil since the beginning till now, why would He consume man whom He loves and died for? And why would He want you to “consume” or destroy your neighbor? He gives rain and sun to His beloved and enemies alike. This we must also do by loving our neighbors despite their persons. If we do not, we operate in the ministry of destruction which is of the devil. Bear in mind, what a man sows, he reaps. Meaning, if we pray for them that despitefully use us, many others would pray for us, but those who decide to destroy others will have destruction waiting for them when God sentences the disobedient. Let us be like God in mercy and love.
SOLUTION: Judge no one; rather pray for your assumed enemies. Those who took Christ to the cross were not the enemy but instruments in the hands of the enemy. The same is true about your detractors. The earlier we realize this, the better our hearts would be and we will be able to live our lives, emulating Christ.
Please pray thus: My father and my God I want to be like you in everything: by your Spirit, please guide me to start behaving like you in every way of life in Jesus’ name. Let not destruction but mercy and love proceed from me to anyone O Lord in Jesus’ name. Let the whole world begin to identify your “DNA” in me, daddy, in Jesus’ name.
