Focus: 1 Timothy 6:17-18 - KJV
17. Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 18. That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
Mark 10:23-26
It is a big folly for anyone to put his trust in uncertain riches. Yes, riches are uncertain in that they have the capacity or even tendency to develop wings and fly away. With riches do men acquire vain things. In the days of old, they acquired so many chariots and horses only to find the nation with less army, chariots and horses but with trust in God, getting the victory in battle. The tendency for the rich is to be proud because of their riches. When they meet their colleagues and contemporaries, they look down on them. There was a saying back in the day, that what idea has the poor when the rich are discussing? Such posture creates in the rich some false sense of superiority and contempt towards the poor. With such sense, it is difficult to exhibit love which is the basis of human success.
Trust should rather be put in God who is the one that endows riches in the first place, and when He so gives, He ensures it is enjoyed without any sorrow added into it. However, the basis of His endowment is not for self-aggrandizement or oppressive conducts; but for good works to humanity, distribution to the needy and less privileged, and making room for those who require counsel to have access thereto. Riches may not be strictly in monetary terms. It is possible to be rich in spiritual endowments also. When God gives us riches, for instance, in prophecy, ministry or exhortation, we are to ensure we give not, based on what we hope to get from the audience or their team, but according to the measure of faith given by God. Some will never minister in some setting because it is clear they do not have a deep purse. Yet, these ones look at themselves as the purveyors of the grace which God had given liberally.
Beloved, please do not be one of them that put their trust in riches and not in God. Like Christ admonished, it will be difficult for the rich to enter into the Kingdom. Stop looking at the size of your bank account to measure riches. Rather, ensure you do not keep that which God has enriched you with from the purpose for which He gave you, which is to be a blessing unto others. Whenever your riches are not utilized in love, it may be difficult to enter into the Kingdom because God is Love and you are not able to walk with Him except you both agree.
SOLUTION: Put not reliance in riches of any kind. Rather, repose confidence in God, who never fails. Always lean on God and not riches.
Please pray: Father, please do not let that which you have given me become an hinderance to my reigning with you, in the end, in Jesus’ name. Help me to utilize judiciously the riches I have from you, in Jesus’ name. Open my eyes to the plight of the needy that I may be able to touch them with spiritual compassion, in Jesus’ name.
If you are blessed by this post, kindly share with your contacts, as well as others, that they may be blessed also. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly as you do so, in Jesus’ name.
