Focus: Proverbs 23:17-18 –KJV 17. Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. 18. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
Proverbs 24:14-20
It is mind bungling to find many who tend towards righteousness envying sinners, knowing that the candle of the wicked shall be put out in the end, while the expectation of the righteous shall not be cut off. When a person is envied, it presupposes wanting to be in the same’s stead. Why would anyone want his candle put out like that of the wicked? There is a sure position of the righteous: whatever his expectations are, God ensures it comes to performance. The expectation of David upon being anointed to be king was to someday attain the position. Even though he had serious persecution from his leader and present king at the time, he in the end attained the throne, thereby fulfilling his expectation. On the other hand, even though Saul occupied the throne, he was a wicked man who sought to end the life of a “son”, all because he was a shining light. Of course, his candle was put out with ignominy.
What set David out as righteous was the fact that even in the tragedy that took Saul, his supposed enemy, he was never rejoicing because of it. Rather, he mourned the departure of the king and leader. We are enjoined, like David, not to rejoice over the downfall of the “enemy” because such rejoicing is from the heart of wickedness and may cause God to turn to the side of the afflicted and thereby move against the one rejoicing. To remain righteous and have our expectations sustained therefore, we must operate in love without wanting evil to befall anyone or rejoice at the downfall of anyone, either. Hence, when the expectations of a supposed righteous person appear cut off, we are not invited to query God but to interrogate the righteousness of the person concerned: Is he truly righteous at heart, like David in the Saul episode?
And so, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we declare over you today that your righteous expectations shall never be cut off. Every plan of the wicked over your life shall be thwarted by the one who will not allow the scepter of wickedness to rest upon the lot of the righteous, in Jesus’ name. You will live long to enjoy the benefit of righteousness in Jesus’ name. All those who are waiting to mock you shall be compelled to celebrate with you by reason of that which the Lord will cause you to achieve in Jesus’ name. Whatever has been working against the coming to bear of your expectation shall be dislodged by the Lord today in Jesus’ name. Everyone that blesses you shall be blessed beyond measure in the name of Jesus Christ. The whole world shall shout for joy when your expectations come to performance, in Jesus’ name.
SOLUTION: Unrighteousness stems from evil and ends in wickedness. That in itself spells doom for the actor in the end, no matter how rosy things may appear with him in the present. Therefore, let us avoid unrighteousness like a plague. Let us seek the help of the Holy Spirit in places where we have difficulties turning to righteousness.
