15. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. 16. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. -- John 15:15-16 - KJV
In the ancient world, a servant simply took orders without ever understanding the master’s grand design. Jesus shatters this rigid boundary. He elevates our status from a distant laborer to an intimate confidant. By sharing the heart and mysteries of the Father, Jesus invites us into a relationship built on transparency and trust. We are not nameless cogs in a divine machine; we are partners in His heavenly mission. It is deeply humbling to realize that our relationship with God did not originate from our own search for Him. Jesus chose us. Before we ever took a step toward Him, His grace singled each of us out. This truth eliminates the exhausting pressure to perform or earn His affection. Our position in His kingdom is secure because it is rooted entirely in His sovereign, initiating love.
Jesus did not choose us just for our comfort; He appointed us for impact. True connection to the Vine naturally overflows into a life of purpose. This "lasting fruit" represents a transformed inner character—like love, humility, and patience—and the outward legacy of sharing His gospel with others. Our lives carry divine assignments to leave eternal marks on the world around us. The ultimate promise of this intimate friendship is direct access to the Father. When our hearts align with Christ's mission, our prayers change. Asking "in His name" means praying in accordance with His character and desires. As friends of God, actively pursuing His purposes, we can approach the throne with absolute boldness, knowing the Father delights in giving us exactly what we need to fulfill our calling.
In what areas of your spiritual life do you still act like an insecure servant rather than a trusted friend of Jesus? Knowing that Jesus actively chose and appointed you, how does that change the way you view your value and daily purpose? What is one practical way you can focus on producing "fruit that lasts" in your workplace, family, or community this week? Please reflect on this things today and begin to act on them.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the mind-blowing privilege of being called a friend of Jesus. Thank you for choosing me out of love and trusting me with your heart and purpose. Forgive me for the times I live like an orphan or a servant, forgetting the intimacy you have provided. I pray for the grace to remain deeply connected to you today. Holy Spirit, empower me to go out and bear lasting fruit that brings glory to your name. All this I pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Please share. God bless you.
