Daily, Public Overflow

Focus: Psalm 96:2–3 (KJV): "Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people." 

Believers are called to passionately worship God in private, and then boldly broadcast His supernatural works to the world around us. The Psalmist presents us with a lifestyle that refuses to keep God a secret. True biblical faith cannot be locked inside a church building or kept as a private hobby. We are to do this "from day to day"—meaning our testimony should be a fresh, daily occurrence, not a distant memory from years ago. Furthermore, we are commanded to take this message outside our comfort zones, sharing His "wonders" among "the heathen" and "all people." Our personal worship is meant to become a public witness.

A little Israeli girl had been violently captured by a Syrian raiding party and dragged away from her home. She was forced to become a servant to the wife of Naaman, the commander of the Syrian army. Syria was a pagan nation—literally "the heathen" mentioned in our focus. Her master, Naaman, was a great warrior, but he suffered from leprosy, a devastating and incurable skin disease. The little girl could have easily stayed silent. She could have nursed her bitterness over being kidnapped or assumed that a pagan general didn't deserve God's mercy. Instead, her heart was so anchored in the reality of God’s power that she couldn't keep it to herself. She boldly declared to her mistress, that there is a God who could recover him of his leprosy. She actively "shewed forth" God’s ability to heal and save. Because she had the courage to declare God's wonders, Naaman traveled to Israel, was miraculously healed, and completely abandoned his idols. He declared that there was no God in all the earth but the God of Israel. A whole household—and a foreign military leader—came to know the Lord because one young girl refused to hide her testimony.

Don't rely on old testimonies. Today, think about what God has done for you in the last 24 to 48 hours—a moment of peace, an answered prayer, or a provision. Thank Him for it right now to keep your worship "day to day." Think of environments in your life where God is completely ignored or forgotten (e.g., a secular workplace, a school, or a specific social circle). View yourself not as a victim of your circumstances, but as a strategic missionary sent to "declare His glory" there. Look for natural opportunities today to credit God for your blessings. Instead of saying, "I just got lucky," choose to say, "God really blessed me and provided for me."

Prayer

Lord God, you are worthy of all my praise, honor, and adoration. Forgive me for the times I have kept your goodness a secret out of fear, shyness, or spiritual laziness. Give me the heart and the courage of the little captive maid. Help me to sing of your goodness and bless your name daily, and give me the boldness to declare your salvation and your wonders to the people in my life who desperately need to know you, in Jesus' name, Amen.
