Forget Not The Lord

Focus: Hosea 13:6 - KJV

6. According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.

Deuteronomy 8:11-18

The memory of man is so short that he seldom remembers his benefactor(s) after a little while, particularly when his circumstance is altered. Some would forget the good deeds they had enjoyed in the hands of someone who has been good to them and only be bitter about some flimsy thing, quite less important when weighed with the past acts. Others forget the tough times they were in that brought them to their knees when they appear to be better off. As they act thus to fellow men, they do the same to God also. Meanwhile, God hates ingrates and therefore is not served by such attitude. That we may not get into trouble with Him, He warns us through the instructions of Moses to Israel about the same.

Ironically however, rather than keep such warning to heart, we often just forget and treat God shabbily by pretending, when affluent, that our prowess brought us to the current state; or when in trouble, by pretending that God never did any positive thing in our life before. Look at the life of the Israelis: every time they went murmuring against the Lord when it appeared things went awry with them, forgetting the past wonders God did for them that made nations fear them. Or, is it the life of King Saul who after attaining the throne, could no longer care to follow God’s instruction strictly? David was not better in that he had no thought of women when he faced lions and bears in the wilderness as a shepherd, until he became king and had no thought of God when he was dealing vilely with Urriah.

Beloved, we are unfair to God when we forget Him to give Him His deserved glory in any situation that we may find ourselves. Whatever height we attain, He brought us to, and no matter how low things may appear, He that took us high before can do it again, even in a far better fashion. It is rather disdainful to forget the one that teaches us and gives us the power to get wealth. Forgetting Him is fraught with great consequences: when He is so shabbily treated, He leaves us to our new found fate. When He left Saul, he became insane; and when He departed from David, albeit for a short while, David had brought the sword to his own house apart from courting dishonor from his own offspring, in that his son messed his woman up in the full glare of the people. Please, remember to give God the honor due to Him always.

SOLUTION: Put the Lord before you in all things and on a daily basis, and you are not likely to forget Him easily. Always remember where you started. Those who are thoughtful are always thankful.

Father, we cannot thank you enough for the way you have brought us up in you all these years. Please accept our thanks in Jesus’ name. Today we give you all the glory for our attainments. Please be forever glorified in Jesus’ name. As you have taught us that many are the afflictions of the righteous, in all our afflictions, please arise for our help and see us through valiantly, like you did in the past, in Jesus’ name. Please help us never to forget or lose sight of your person in our lives in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
