Our Help

Focus: Psalms 46:1 KJV: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

God is not a distant observer during a crisis. He is an immediate, accessible hiding place, an internal power supply, and a savior who is entirely reachable and active right in the middle of our chaos.

The unstoppable Assyrian empire pinned Jerusalem down. Their general mocked Hezekiah and loudly blasphemed God, demanding an immediate, unconditional surrender. Instead of panicking or relying on military alliances, Hezekiah took the enemy’s threatening letter directly into the temple and spread it out before the Lord in prayer. He treated God as his immediate refuge. God proved to be a very present help. That exact night, without Hezekiah lifting a single sword, “the Angel of the Lord” swept through the enemy camp and single-handedly eliminated 185,000 Assyrian soldiers, completely shattering the threat.

When we are surrounded by trouble, we are also surrounded by God. We do not have to fight in our own energy or sink into fear. When we run to God as our refuge, His present power will fight the battle for us. Draw nigh unto God today so that He may draw nigh unto you.

Prayer:

Lord, I thank you for fighting my battles for me. I submit all my worries unto you today, please take over the battles of my life, and put my adversaries to flight. Let me stand tall and great in you, that your name alone may be glorified, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
