Our Help Is In God

Focus: Hosea 13:9 - KJV

9. O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.

Deuteronomy 33:26-29

Often times when man destroys himself by going to the territory of the devourer away from the presence of God, he begins to ask where God is thereby attributing his destruction to God. Meanwhile, if only he would have a rethink and return to God, the Lord is always available to help him out of his destructions. But until he looks to and cry to God by first drawing nigh unto Him, he continues to put himself in the line of destruction. Once he realizes himself, seeks God’s mercy and amends his ways, the Lord steps in to help him and to keep him afloat from every drink that seeks to drown him.

The prodigal son readily comes to mind here. He left the territory of his father and went to destroy himself by self-afflicting himself. Once he realized himself and returned to the father, the father took him over and helped him effectively. Israel was known at the time of the judges to afflict themselves by drawing away from the Lord who brought them out of Egypt. When they got scorched by the fire they lit, they returned to God and He kindly helped them by appointing for them a judge or the other to be their champion in battle.

It is the last day in the first month of the year and the Lord is saying all that we have passed through in the negative sense so far this year happened because we were self-afflicted. He is asking that we turn fully unto Him and seek His help in those harrowing situations and experience, and that His everlasting arms are there to rescue us for they are still underneath. Let us therefore, retrace our steps immediately back to His covering before the enemy does greater devastation.
