12. Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
John 15:18-25
It is such a pity that many believers do not yet have a full grasp of the position of Christ regarding their dwelling in the current world. Many assume that the phrase “it is finished” that Christ made on the cross did not only extinguish their sins but also takes tribulations and persecution away from them. But that cannot be true! For, when Christ said a servant is not greater than the Master, He was referring to the things that believers would face after His exit and not necessarily while He was still around. Hence, unless we be believers only by mouth; if we do the will of the Master by living godly in Christ, we cannot escape persecution as our lives offend the enemy, badly.
The lives of the immediate disciples of Christ and what they went through for the sake of the Gospel which we now treat with so much levity and render almost powerless because we have jettisoned the truth thereof to hold on to those things that sound sweet to our hearings which things are not true of God, will show us that, truly, the believer is raised for persecution. Incidentally, when they were so persecuted and whipped at times, they gladly took it as something worth rejoicing for. It is real blessing for anyone to be persecuted or maltreated for the sake of the Gospel of Christ.
Christ is repeating to us today that we should be of good cheer. That which we go through today in the hands of the enemy, some others had passed through it in times past and are victorious. Hence, if we faint not, our victory is also assured. Please do not, because of tribulation or persecution, forsake Christ. Those who do, end up in double jeopardy. They fail to partake in the worldly “enjoyment” whilst striving to be holy; and then, because they did not endure to the end, they will forfeit the kingdom enjoyment which is the real and everlasting enjoyment. ‘Hold the forth’ is what the Lord is saying right now.
Please pray:
Father, I thank you for the grace I have in your Spirit to be godly in Christ Jesus. Whatever the world may throw my way, I put my life and entire being in your hands, sweet Lord; please uphold me to the end so that I may never buckle or fall away, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Help me to remain in you, no matter what, in Jesus’ name. Do not let the enemy prevail over me, in Jesus’ name. Even now, because you will not allow me to be tempted beyond that which I can bear, rebuke the devil for my sake that I may be relieved of the current persecution, that I may remain standing, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
