Please Be Compassionate

Focus: 1 John 3:17-18 - KJV

17. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 18. My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

James 2:15-17

The Lord is love and wants to relate with them that do love Him. Therefore, many are times, He comes to us as a person in need, knowing fully well what provision He has made for us that we may show Him love when He appears to be in need. But how many people have failed Him by withdrawing compassion from Him, assuming that what we have is meant for ourselves alone; meanwhile, we have more than enough to spare? When we refuse to show compassion, He says on the day of reckoning He would deny such people as they refuse to give Him to eat in hunger, cloth Him in winter and give Him drink in thirst. There was a young lad who had a lunch pack with him after attending days of crusade with the Christ. There was a request made for anyone that has any iota of food to come forward. With the heart of compassion and love, believing the Master was hungry, he offered his lunch. In the end, his lunch fed five thousand men and more with twelve baskets left for him to go home with. He did not end up being hungry as he would have assumed in offering his food to Christ. For every good deed of ours, there is always a recompense. What we give in compassion, is done in love to the neighbor in need but eventually to God. Since He is Spirit, He needs us in our bodily form to help reach out to His loved ones. That is why He gives us more than enough in the first place.

Beloved, it is a good thing to pray God to help the needy. But like someone said, the hungry man is not so inspired to shout Hallelujah. As you pray, please endeavor to do more by giving some substance to meet the need, no matter how hard it is for you to do. When you do so, you are giving to God and without you knowing it, you may be entertaining an angel. Givers do not lack as the devil would want to suggest to anyone to prevent them from giving. Indeed, the One who gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater knows what He is doing when He afforded you seed in the semblance of much more bread than necessary. Use it to care for that person in need, compassionately.

SOLUTION: Because God is the ultimate sustainer, it is good to pray for the needy. But do not stop there, give your support in material terms also and pray that what you have given will never be fully spent. Be compassionate, no matter what. Even if it is your last, give, like the widow of Zarephath.

Father, we are sorry we have not been compassionate enough in the past; please forgive us in Jesus’ name. From now on, the grace to show compassion to the needy, please bestow on us and give us the spirit to discern the true needy from scammers in Jesus’ name. As we give to the needy, please count us worthy of your blessings at all times in Jesus’ name. Never let our benevolence go to waste in Jesus’ name. And today, please send help to the needy all over the world even as you meet us also at the point of our individual needs in Jesus’ name.
