Pure Thoughts

Focus: Philippians 4:8 - KJV

8. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

1 Kings 19:1-4

As he thinks in his heart, so he is, the Bible says. Christ also says, the thought determines the action, for all the evil that men do emanate from the inside – their thoughts. Basically, thoughts produced are not just to hurt others; at times the thoughts come to hurt the thinker. Invariably, anyway, sin hurts the sinner directly in the end. How do thoughts hurt the thinker? It is possible to drop into depression or low self-esteem from suicidal thoughts and such thoughts that make life not worthwhile, after all. It does not matter what people say, once the mind is fixated on an impure thought, unless the thought is purged, it produces negative materials. This has nothing to do with status, age or height. Any man whose mind gets polluted with evil thoughts can actually be a victim of the devil. Please note that thoughts are provoked by things we are exposed to, including information.

Elijah was a strong servant of God who called fire down from heaven, called God and He answered to the full glare of observers, decreed rain and saw the sign of rain, outran a chariot dragged by horses, stood and saw the killing of prophets of Baal etc., but when he heard the threat of Jezebel who issued a death warrant for Elijah, his heart took in a thought, and his understanding of the size of his God, left him in a while. The strong man of God took to his heels. His thought: let me just die! When asked what the problem was, he hinged on information he had been dwelling upon which was that he was the only prophet of God left, and now it was his turn to be killed. In the meantime, the one who wanted him killed had moved on. The information he stood under, that was responsible for his understanding, was no longer relevant; yet he kept running from nothing and was willing to die for it.

The word of God implores us to renew our minds. This is primarily in our reviewing the thoughts we allow in ourselves. To have our thoughts pure, we need always to ensure that what we dwell on in our inner man is true, honest, just, pure lovely and of good report. If we say these things out for others to hear, how do they see us and our thoughts? If we must live our lives fruitfully and in consonance with the will of God, we are to ensure we purify our thoughts. When we do so, then we are able to make our choices with a clear mind, to enjoy the result thereof. Anything otherwise, presents jaundiced thoughts with evil actions, including suicide.

SOLUTION: Let nothing stay in your mind which does not promote godliness. When the thoughts cannot stand on the scripture, then they are ungodly. Take them off your heart.

Please pray thus: Our Lord and our God we expose our minds fully to you: please, take them over and help expunge every negative thought by your interrogation, like you did with Elijah, in Jesus’ name.
