1. A Song of degrees. LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions:
2 Timothy 3:10-15
Persecutions and afflictions are a common place in the life of a believer. The believer who is not experiencing afflictions and persecution is yet to become a threat to the kingdom of darkness. Darkness is known for corruption and crass lack of love for the people, particularly those who are of the household of faith. Think about it: when you are invited to team up with thieves, embezzlers, robbers, adulterers, fornicators and/or murderers but you refuse, you become their primary target for attack. They will go all out to portray you to others as corrupt even though they know you are not; they will want to make you look worse than themselves in the glare of men, even though they know you are just. They will even attempt to take your life when they fail to cow you in all their wickedness and you are still waxing strong. When all of these begin to show in your life, it must mean you are indeed on the side of righteousness. Don’t buckle; rather, call on God your helper.
When Paul was persecuting the Church alongside the Sanhedrin as Saul of Tarsus, he had applause amongst the rulers of the Jews. Whatever he claimed he needed he was given, even to the extent of a fiat to arrest and jail believers without need of proof of offense. No sooner than the same became an apostle of Christ, all hell broke loose and he was presented, seen and handled as a vile person, who should not be allowed any freedom. He was put in chains, committed into prisons and treated like a common criminal by his erstwhile compatriots who knew clearly that he had no crime but, since he had turned against them, then he should not be allowed to expose their evil. Nevertheless, no matter the affliction hauled at a believer, he has a defender who does not forsake His own. If the believer would cry to God his defender, the same will bring Him to remembrance of His promises concerning him, particularly the promise not to leave or forsake him.
Today, God wants us never to faint in the face of afflictions and persecutions. Rather, we should always turn to the one who called us not to forget us. David was a beneficiary of God’s intervention in his affairs through his afflictions. God never forgot him even though he was not so perfect a man. The believer is built to be greater and better than David. Hence, if David could be so remembered of God, the same God will remember the believer better. Never allow the burden of affliction to crush you and destroy your spirit. Keep on loving still, even as you call on God to remember you. David was victorious over his afflictions even though he qualifies to be called a man of affliction. Christ, our example, triumphed over all His afflictions because the father remembered Him at the critical point. God will come through for us in our affliction if we will call Him to remembrance.
SOLUTION: Faint not. They that faint in the face of affliction are of little strength. The life of the believer is full of battles. Match on bearing your cross like a true Christian soldier, always calling on the Lord, your Commander-in-Chief, that you are still on the battle field. He will instruct and guide you to safety soon enough.
Please pray:
· Give thanks to God for His past guidance over your life and for not allowing afflictions to dip you, up till now
· Pray that the Lord will strengthen you in the face of afflictions, persecution and backstabbing by the world, particularly coming from your friends and old acquaintances
· Ask God to remember you today in all of your afflictions and rescue you now
· Ask the Lord to please come through for you and make your enemies and persecutors your footstool
· Ask for your daily bread for today
