Focus: 2 Timothy 1:9 - KJV
9. Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
Titus 3:4-7
It is becoming a common phenomenon for Christians to boast of their “good” works that brought them to a level “in Christ” and therefore affords them titles, and whatever, on earth. But the Bible is clear in setting out that salvation is by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, according to the will of God, and not by works lest any should boast. This means simply that whoever we are and whatever we may attain, all are by the grace of God. Those who do not so attain are not so fortunate perhaps because they have leaned so much unto believing the deception of the enemy in the course of their journeys and not necessarily because the Lord loves them less.
Had the rich man in the story of Lazarus known better, he would have yielded to love while he was on earth and he would have ended in a better place. But then, there was no work that Lazarus did that we are told warranted his ending up in the bosom of Abraham. All we got is that the rich man had his time and pleasure on earth but Lazarus had none. In essence, it was not by his works that Lazarus got saved but by the holy calling of God. Christ has come to offer everyone that cares to listen and obey Him that same calling so that we may not end up in regrets at the end, but fulfil the purpose and grace that the Lord has offered us.
Today, God wants us to shift focus from works and deeds as if that is our “christ” that brings us to salvation and eternal life. But to know and realize that, He is the one who works in us to will and to do according to His own good pleasure, purpose and grace which He had given us in Christ Jesus before the world began. It is not a personal achievement borne out of any work that we did. Hence, we are to continually be grateful to Him who first loved us and sacrificed Himself for our salvation, so that by that same grace, through our faith in Him, we are ransomed from eternal destruction. Never by our works, lest we render His grace worthless.
SOLUTION: Never again should any boast over works and achievements. There is nothing we are that we did not achieve through Christ. Give all praise to Him who has saved you by grace through faith.
Please pray:
· Give thanks to God for having predestined you for His salvation and glory in Christ Jesus
· Ask that God should please forgive your vain glorying of the past
· Pray that the grace of God may abound unto you more and more
· Ask God to make you better than Lazarus so that you may enjoy this life and still reign with Him in eternity, by His grace
· Ask for today’s daily bread
