The Bread That Never Fails

Scripture Reading: John 6:35

"Then Jesus declared, 'I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.'" (NIV)

We spend much of our lives chasing things we hope will satisfy us: a better job, more recognition, or even just the next vacation. Yet, like physical bread, these things provide only temporary relief. A few hours or days later, the "hunger" in our souls returns.

When Jesus calls Himself the Bread of Life, He is offering a different kind of sustenance. He isn't just a provider of blessings; He is the blessing. Just as bread was the most basic necessity for survival in the ancient world, Jesus is the essential requirement for our spiritual survival.

Coming to Jesus means more than just a Sunday morning visit. It is a daily reliance—inviting His presence into our morning chaos, lunch breaks, and evening rest. When we stop trying to fill our "soul hunger" with temporary distractions and instead "feast" on His Word and presence, we find a quiet strength and contentment that the world cannot take away. Seven foul spirits were driven out of Mary Magdalene. She did not after receiving her deliverance, abandon the Bread of Life. Rather, she stuck with Him so as not to give room for unwanted guests to take the space when strange hunger pangs come.

What have you been chasing lately to find fulfillment? Is it leaving you feeling empty again shortly after? Just as you wouldn't go days without eating, don't let your soul go hungry. Take five minutes today to sit quietly with a single verse of Scripture. Remember that Jesus promised to never drive away anyone who comes to Him. You can return to Him today regardless of how long it’s been since your last "meal".

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You are the Bread of Life. Forgive me for the times I’ve looked for satisfaction in things that can never truly fill me. Today, I come to You hungry for Your peace and thirsty for Your grace. Feed my soul with Your truth and help me to rely on You as my daily sustenance. Amen.

Please share. God bless you.
