The Condition for Intimacy

Focus: 2 Corinthians 6:17–18 (KJV): "Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." 

Experiencing the deepest intimacy of God's fatherhood requires a deliberate decision to separate ourselves from the corrupt patterns of the world. God demands complete spiritual and moral segregation from wickedness. His commands are "Come out," "be ye separate," and "touch not." God does not want you to blend in with a godless culture or tolerate "unclean" habits in your private life. Of course, this is with a reward: "I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you." This does not mean God stops loving you if you stumble. It means that you cannot fully experience the close, protective, and empowering reality of His Fatherhood while you are actively holding hands with the world. True separation from sin always leads to deeper intimacy with the Father.

When Daniel was taken captive to Babylon, King Nebuchadnezzar designed a brilliant assimilation program. He wanted the young Hebrew boys to forget their God, their language, and their holiness. He assigned them a daily portion of the king's rich meat and alcoholic wine—foods that were either sacrificed to idols or forbidden by God's law. They were expected to blend into Babylonian high society. Daniel chose to "come out from among them" right at the dinner table. He didn't pick a fight or act self-righteous, but he firmly refused to touch the unclean thing. Because Daniel chose holy separation, God openly received him. The Lord gave Daniel supernatural favor with his overseers, outstanding physical health on a simple diet of vegetables, and wisdom that outshone all the magicians of Babylon combined. Daniel proved that when you draw a line of separation for God's sake, the Lord Almighty steps in to defend, guide, and honor you like a proud Father.

What is a cultural norm or habit that you are currently tolerating that secretly defiles your spiritual life? It could be a compromised media choice, a toxic inner circle, or a dishonest business practice. Purpose in your heart to step away from it today. Stop trying so hard to be accepted by people who do not care about God. View your uniqueness as a badge of honor. Your holiness is your security. If you feel lonely or isolated because you chose to stand up for biblical values this week, remember the promise of Go. Lean into the comforting, powerful arms of the Lord Almighty, who has promised to be your Father.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank you that you call me your child. Forgive me for the times I have tried to blend into a broken world rather than standing apart for your glory. Today, I purpose in my heart to come out from among worldly compromises. Give me the courage of Daniel to reject the "king's meat" of this culture. Wash me clean, fill me with your Spirit, and let me walk in the full joy, peace, and security of your intimate Fatherhood today, in Jesus' name, Amen
