The Current and Future Quickening

Focus: Romans 8:11 (KJV): "But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you." 

To "quicken" is to make alive, to vitalize, or to infuse with dynamic energy. God did not leave Jesus in the tomb; He used the Holy Spirit to bring His dead body back to life. Therefore, if that exact same Holy Spirit makes His home inside you, it is an absolute certainty that your body will experience that same life-giving power. This promise operates in two powerful dimensions: when Christ returns, our physical, decaying body will be completely resurrected and transformed into an immortal, glorified body. Death will lose its grip on us entirely; the Holy Spirit does not wait until we die to start working. Right now, He vitalizes our "mortal" (presently dying and weak) body. When we are exhausted, sick, tempted, or spiritually drained, the Indwelling Spirit infuses us with supernatural strength, enabling us to overcome the flesh and walk in victory.

Ezekiel was set down in a valley completely filled with human bones. The Bible specifically notes that they were "very dry". There was no tissue, no breath, and absolutely zero human potential for revival. It was a picture of ultimate mortality and helplessness. God told Ezekiel to speak to these bones, and then to command the "wind". Ezekiel cried out, "Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live". The moment the Spirit entered them, an incredible transformation took place. Bone snapped to bone, sinews and flesh covered them, and "the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army". If the Holy Spirit can look at a valley of scattered, bleached bones and quicken them into a mighty army, He can easily handle your daily exhaustion, your broken health, or your struggling spiritual life. The Spirit dwelling in you is a Spirit of unstoppable life.

When you face a situation today that feels "dead"—whether it is a struggling relationship, a dead-end circumstance, or overwhelming physical fatigue—consciously stop trying to fix it in your own energy. Pray: "Holy Spirit, quicken this area of my life with your resurrection power." Remember that because the life-giving Spirit lives inside you, you are no longer a slave to your old sinful nature. You have the supernatural power to say "no" to temptation, because the Spirit makes you alive to God and dead to sin. Do not fear aging, sickness, or physical decline. Remind yourself daily that your current body is temporary, and God has already guaranteed its ultimate, glorious upgrade through the Spirit.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am completely amazed by the truth that the very same Spirit who raised my Lord Jesus Christ from the dead is currently living inside of me. Forgive me for living as if I am helpless or defeated. Today, I ask that your Holy Spirit would quicken my mortal body. Pour your resurrection life into my weary mind, my weak flesh, and my daily battles. Thank you for the absolute certainty of my future resurrection, and help me to walk in the dynamic power of that truth today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
