The fight of faith

Memorize: 1 Timothy 6:12

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

Read: 2 Timothy 4:1-8.

Faith can be a belief and trust in and loyalty to God or allegiance to duty or a person. The bible describes it more elaborately though. For our guide today, we will limit it to the ones stated. Our faith in God is in the fact that, like He promised, He already came as the sacrificial lamb for the sin of man: sacrificed, dead and buried; rose again from the dead and has thereby taken away the power of death and the grave as it pertains to the sin of man. Unfortunately, the enemy has beclouded the minds of many from realizing this truth. Yet, he is not satisfied. He is even making war to bring down the few that believe.

To remain standing, there is a fight to engage in. The enemy is constantly hurling all manner of darts at the Believer to make him fall. It takes the grace of God and the Believer’s violent faith to stand. Which partly explains why the Lord said since the days of John the Baptist until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffereth violence and the violent takes it by force. Part of the fight the Believer fights is to ensure he has with him many more ransomed from darkness into the marvelous light of God. For all these, he is to expect persecutions, desertion as well as his hearers turning away their ears from the truth and forsaking sound doctrines. These are near normal the battle the Believer must be ready to engage in as no servant is greater than the Master. How are you progressing in the fight of faith? If your activities are not drawing grumblings, persecutions, opposition and the likes from the world, you may sure need to verify your salvation. It is either you are blending with the world or you have become too cold.

Once he became an Apostle of Christ, Paul put in everything to ensure the faith stands. He preached in season and out of season and did not care whose hoarse is gourd once he is on the side of God, to the extent that he even challenged Peter when he found the Chief Apostle himself (Peter) in error. Once you know you are on the side of God, whatever anyone may say, let them say; just be resolute about your conviction and uphold the stance of God. Like Paul, you will finish strong and well. Don’t give in; don’t compromise.

Pray:

Father, the battle is rife: help me to keep standing to the end. Renew my oil every bit of the way and help me to shine for you to the very end in Jesus name.
