"Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people."— Exodus 33:13 (KJV)
There is a profound spiritual truth we all need to understand: knowing God's ways is the key to knowing His heart. Many people only seek God’s hands—what He can provide, fix, or give. True disciples seek His face—His character, His presence, and His thoughts. In our focus scripture, Moses used the grace he had already received to ask for the greatest gift possible: a deeper, more intimate relationship with the Almighty. He knew that the only way to sustain his leadership and find continuous favor was to walk in lockstep with God's rhythm.
Moses prayed this prayer at a critical, heartbreaking crossroads. Israel had just sinned greatly by worshiping the golden calf. God told Moses that He would still send an angel to guide them to the Promised Land, but He Himself would not go with them because of their stiff-necked rebellion. For Moses, a land flowing with milk and honey was absolutely worthless without the actual presence of God. Let us look closely at Moses’ strategy in prayer. He does not ask for riches, military victory, or an easier journey. He asks: "shew me now thy way, that I may know thee."
Let us use the blessings and grace God has already given us as a launching pad to seek greater intimacy with Him, not as an excuse to coast. When we understand how God operates (His ways), we develop a stable faith that isn't shaken when circumstances change. The ultimate reward of finding grace in God's sight is not material comfort; it is the privilege of knowing the Creator intimately. Do not be more focused on reaching your personal "promised lands" (career goals, financial milestones, comfort) than you are on enjoying the presence of the One who guides you. please set aside your checklist of personal requests during your next prayer time. Instead, make Moses' prayer your own. Spend your time asking God to reveal His character to you through His Word, praying: "Lord, show me Your ways today so that I might know You deeper."
Prayer
Daddy, I thank you for the incredible grace you have poured out on my life. Forgive me for sometimes focusing more on your blessings than on you, the Blesser. Like Moses, I pray that you show me your ways. I want to know how you think, what you love, and how you want me to move. I do not want to take a single step today without your presence guiding me. Let my life find continuous favor in your sight as I seek your face, in Jesus' mighty name, Amen
Please share. God bless you.
