Happy New Month, beloved. May this month of May be a delightsome one unto you and all yours, in Jesus’ name. Our verse for today is often misunderstood as a "blank check" from God—the idea that if we follow Him, He will give us whatever we happen to want. But the beauty of this promise lies in the order of the words. The "delight" comes before the "desires." To delight in someone means to take extreme pleasure in their company, to value their thoughts, and to find joy simply by being near them. When we make the Lord our greatest joy, something miraculous happens: our hearts begin to beat in rhythm with His. Our selfish wants begin to fade, and they are replaced by desires that align with His goodness, His will, and His love.
God isn't just promising to give you things; He is promising to satisfy your heart with the things that truly matter. When He is your greatest treasure, your heart’s desires will always be met because you have found everything you need in Him. The Samaritan woman at the well of Jacob had very serious thirsts and desires that she believed was covered. Upon meeting Christ who uncovered it all and offered her better, she threw all other desires away and drew others unto the Messiah.
As you move to delight yourself in the Lord, ask yourself honestly, "What is the highlight of my day?" If it’s something other than God, try to spend a few moments intentionally thanking Him for His character (His mercy, His strength, His patience). Take a desire you currently have—perhaps a career goal or a family situation—and surrender it to God. Say, "Lord, if this isn't Your best for me, change my heart to desire what You desire." Look for "God-moments" throughout your day. A beautiful sunset, a kind word, or a moment of peace are all invitations to delight in the Giver of all good things.
Prayer
Dear Lord, I want You to be my greatest delight. Forgive me for the times I’ve chased after temporary things to find happiness. Today, I choose to find my joy in You. Transform the desires of my heart until they reflect Your heart. Thank You for being the only One who can truly satisfy my soul. Let me forever delight in you, in Jesus’ name. Amen
Please share. God bless you.
