The Time Is Short

Focus: 1 Corinthians 7:29-31 - KJV

29. But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none; 30. And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not; 31. And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.

1 Peter 4:7-11

The position of the Lord Jesus Christ about the day of the Lord is that it will be like in the days of Noah. But what was the circumstance in those days? The Bible gives the insight that there was so much unrighteousness in the land at the time culminating into so much evil and violence. Of course, despite those occurrences, people were still marrying and giving in marriage, giving birth to children, rejoicing and wallowing away in unrighteous deeds and thoughts, as if nothing mattered. It is not unrighteous to marry or bear children, no. However, it is a time now for sober reflection in all that we do, knowing that the day of the Lord is nearer today than it was yesterday. Hence, because everything we may do on earth is just temporal, we need not hold too tight to it but loosen up our holds that we may focus on the more important things of the kingdom. For, whether the day of the Lord comes now or later, everyone will expire someday. When we do expire, our affairs in the world ends and all those things which we ordinarily pride in, are redistributed to others.

What then: shall we because of the coming of the day not live? To live is to operate in righteousness so that after all said and done, we may truly live with the Lord in the end. Anything short of this is a settlement for the second death. When the generation of Noah was too busy about the world, they did not know that the threat of the rain was real, as Noah was building the ark. By the time they realized the position they were in, it was practically too late. All that they had cared about, and themselves, got destroyed in the flood. Today’s warning is for us all to consider the time. Since we are not getting younger by every passing day, and the promise of the day of the Lord is imminent, wisdom dictates that as we live in the world, we should moderate our lives to ensure that we conform to the way of the Lord, so that like Noah, He may find us righteous on the day of our visitation. He visited Sodom and found only Lot righteous. He alone and his offspring were saved, just like only righteous Noah and his family saw salvation in the days of the flood. The world is about to be eroded away. When, how and in what way, we may not be able to pinpoint, but it will surely come to pass. Let us therefore, be aware the time is short.

Father, it is only your mercy that can see us through for even Noah and Lot had their own ways of offending you but once they found grace, they got saved. Please, let each of us find grace in your sight that we may be saved to the end, in Jesus’ name. Let not the world get us eroded with it because of the attraction of its vagaries, in Jesus’ name. Do help us to cling to the old rugged cross even to the very end, in Jesus’ name. Whatever we do, please let us find grace in your sight in Jesus’ mighty name.

SOLUTION: Please be sure to mind what you do in life, for the time is short. Do ensure righteousness in all things as it is vital to ultimate salvation.
