28. But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
Luke 11:27-28
It is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich without having sorrow added to the blessing. Some count ephemeral things as blessing whereas God’s mind as to what constitutes blessing differs. It is considered for instance, to be the one that bears the womb that gives birth to a superstar. But it is possible for that same star to be the one that will bring the biggest pain to the womb-bearer. Nonetheless, there is something that is sure: anyone who takes time to receive the word of God, chew on it and takes time to act on what he gets, is blessed of God, whether the devil likes it, or not.
The womb that gave birth to David ought to have been considered blessed. However, perhaps because of the circumstances of his birth, she was not given any accord in scripture. Yet, the son was the greatest king in Israel prior to Christ. Whither then lies the blessedness? But David himself, understood the law of God even beyond Moses the giver of the law and acted well on it. He knew that God countenanced not the blood of goats or rams but a contrite spirit and pure heart He would not despise. By this, his blessedness showed for all to see, even for many generations after him.
It is more profitable to hearken to the voice of the Lord than to offer blood in sacrifice unto Him. He is asking for obedience and strict compliance with that which He has laid down for us. It is when we do this that His presence abides with us and that is the source of our blessings. A refusal to heed His voice, or being mere hearers but non-doers tend to sorrow and not blessing, in any fashion. Let us please, be who God wants us to be by following His word to hear, meditate on, and do.
Please pray:
Father, I thank you for your word that is made available to me for my blessing. I look up to you for the grace to operate always in the performance of your word, always, in Jesus’ name. Whatever will debar my being blessed by staying and operating in your word, please remove from me and my purview ever, in Jesus’ name. Let no power of hell push me away from obeying your word to act in it ever, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Please share with others. God bless you.
