18. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Proverbs 23:20-21
Wine is good to the extent that it keeps the heart merry when taken moderately. However, there is no gauge in the mouth or throat of man to determine the drop that makes wine ingestion excessive. Once it becomes excessive, misbehavior sets in and it brings calamities with it, for it brings to poverty. Not necessarily financial poverty alone, but poverty in numerous dimensions. Compared with ingesting wine is a sweet alternative which can never be excessive: being filled with the Spirit of God. Those who are so filled love to be filled the more in that they get good direction by it and they become wealthy in all ramifications by doing so.
Noah was a man that found grace in the sight of God. Of all the families of men on earth at his time, only his own was preserved from destruction. But the joy of preservation moved Noah to ingest wine excessively which action led to several devastating consequences. By Noah’s sacrifice, God had returned the initial blessing unto man to cancel the curse upon the earth that made it to bring only thorns and thistles to man. By these blessing, it can be inferred that Noah had a touch from God. But no sooner was he blessed that he began to curse his own future, in his son, for seeing his nakedness, thereby bringing himself to poverty futuristically. If he had remained in the blessing without releasing a curse on the earth, perhaps mankind would have been free from anything called a curse.
The Lord is inviting us to blessedness by cautioning us to move away from the traits that returned curses upon the earth. He prefers that we be blessed and that, truly. He is asking that instead of imbibing wine which can engender offense when in excess, we should rather imbibe the Spirit who is love and is never tilted to offense. By the Spirit, only blessings and not curses are pronounced, for it is confusing and forbidden for anyone to curse with the same mouth with which he prays. Hence, being filled with the Spirit rather than wine tends towards wealth and not poverty. This filling is only possible once we accept to follow Christ ways and live by them.
Please pray:
Father, I thank you for the grace to know your truth and to live by your word. I want to be like you in blessings and kindness. I also want to be wealthy above every tranche of poverty. Help me to avoid alcohol in every manner but to imbibe your Spirit to the brim. I do not want to be a curser of anyone; please make me to bless always but curse not, by the help of your Spirit, in the name of Jesus. Let my mouth and my entire being reject alcohol from today by the reason of the blood of Jesus, in Jesus’ name. I will forever glorify your name. Thank you, father.
Please share with others. God bless you.
