Focus: 1 Corinthians 7:22-23 - KJV
22. For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant. 23. Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
1 Peter 2:13-17
Christ paid a huge price with His life through His blood to redeem us from the effect of sin and darkness. Once He did so, we were translated from being servants of the devil who was our ruler in sin and darkness, into being the servants of He who ransomed us. But even Christ does not look at us as slaves but free and rather than call us His slaves, He referred to us as His friends. In actual fact, He made us joint heirs with Himself unto our God. Nonetheless, for as long as we remain on earth, we must remember the one who ransomed us and revere Him as our Master. That simply means, in all we do, we must not go against His position. Yes, we are to respect and honor those placed in authority over us here on earth, but as we are not their servants but Christ’s, when there is a conflict between their position and that of Christ, we should opt for Christ’s position. The king would rather everyone in his domain bows to a graven image in the days of Daniel. The three Hebrew men had always obeyed the king’s injunctions but because this one offends the position of their ultimate Master, God, they rather pitched their tent with God and were victorious. After the disciples performed commendable miracles in the name of Christ, the rulers of the Jews commanded them to stop preaching in that name. Without going into any form of confrontation with them, they made it clear that there was a choice to make: whether to obey them mere men, or to obey the Master who is God.
What is causing conflict in your heart on the choice to make between God’s position and that of an earthly master? If Christ be your Master, why not obey Him and leave the rest to Him. Incidentally, without faith we can not please the Lord. It is ironical to claim to be of Christ but at critical moments pretend He does not exist. For that is the consequence of our action every time we turn our backs on His directives or promises, to do something else.
SOLUTION: Christ, not men ought to be obeyed in all things. Obey Christ alone. Obey Him to the letter.
Father, the enemy is on the prowl against us wanting to devour us, every time we stand in obedience unto you. Please continue to protect us from the fangs of the enemy in Jesus’ name. Help us Lord to be fully obedient unto you as against men who are against your will in Jesus’ name. Let our lives show forth good examples of godliness to every one else in Jesus’ name.
