10. For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it,
James 1:19-25
The world is full of people who have information but fail to put the same to use such that it profits them nothing. The compass for navigating the earth successfully is in the word of God because the Lord is the creator and therefore the owner of all things. And since He knows the ending from the beginning, the way to successfully get to the end He desires for us, He has already set out in His word. Ironically, this information is not lost on many, yet when they ought to put it to use, they don’t and they end up being a shipwreck.
Consider the man Moses: he was one whom God spoke to mouth to mouth. Meaning, the fullness of the instruction of God was not lost on him at any time. Yet, he was instructed to speak to the rock to supply water to the thirsty children of God, but because he was angry with God’s first born, he did not think it bad to, though knowing the word of God, move against what God said. Ezra was not so. The record is that he sought the law of God and ensured he did what he found. Similar testimony was made of Nehemiah. If Noah, after receiving the word of God regarding the ark and its dimensions had gone to do what he pleased as against what God said, he would have sunk with the entire animal kingdom he had in the ark as well as his entire family.
The Lord is saying to us today that we should quit our waywardness in receiving instruction from Him and discountenancing it almost shortly thereafter. Many would be in “church” for a program, hear sound messages in Church and appear sober thereat. But so soon after the service, they have forgotten the entire essence of what the Lord delivered to them and they are about their worldly affairs. The Bible describes such people as those who look at themselves in the mirror (while receiving the message), and as they leave the presence of the mirror, they forget what they saw of themselves. Such people are not keen on making the best of their lives and despite of following God’s compass, they end up blaming God for their horrible circumstance borne out of their neglecting to do God’s word.
SOLUTION: The way to success is in not just being hearer but also doer of the word of God. Be practical in seeking, internalizing and doing the word of God, noting that we are meant to live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
Please pray:
· Thank God for giving you access to His word
· Tell God you are sorry for not acting fully on all you have received as information from Him
· Pray that the Lord will not allow a dearth of His word in your life
· Ask God to give you the strength and enablement to be doer of His word and everyone of it so that you may profit in life thereby
· Ask God for your daily bread for today
