Focus: Matthew 4:4 - KJV
4. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Genesis 25:29-34
Man is made of three components: spirit, soul and body. Though the three are one, of the three, the body is the weakest. It comes out of the dust of the earth and it houses the other two. It is important that it is fed to keep the man alive. But feeding the flesh and not nourishing the soul can be cataclysmically destructive for it profits a man nothing to give pleasure to the body and forfeit his soul. So, even though it is important to feed the body to keep the man alive, it is more important to ensure that it is not done at the expense of the soul. As we may know, the weakest link in any situation is the most vulnerable. Since the weakest link in man is his body, the enemy, in seeking to defeat man, aims majorly for the body. When the enemy took everything that Job had, he went for the body with the final salvo. Thank God for resilience, Job stood his ground where many would have denied God a hundred times over. The little hunger that shook Esau caused him to write off his birthright for next to nothing or in real terms, nothing. The enemy played the same prank on the Lord Jesus Christ by attempting to capitalize on the weakness of His body after a long fast to want to compromise His destiny. The richness of His soul saved Him from the intended torpedo.
Today, many people endanger their souls in the quest to put food on the table for themselves and their families. The devil comes with such manipulation as saying “you know anyone who is not able to provide for his own household is worse than an infidel. Why don’t you just bend over in this little act so that you won’t be considered an infidel?” Every compromise is a salvo targeted at the soul no matter the circumstance. That little bribe, subtle gift to favor someone above the truly qualified, unrighteous gains and so on are like Esau selling his birthright for a bowl of portage after all, if you take a deep thought about it.
SOLUTION: Like Christ, please resolve not to live by bread alone but by the prosperity of your soul.Never allow the devil to lure you to yield to the lust of the flesh by seeking pleasure to satisfy the flesh when your conscience tells you what you seek to do is wrong. Stop trying to justify the evil act by arguing within yourself whether or not it is good. Whenever it is a bit questionable, please leave it be. It will only create in you a spot or wrinkle.
Every attempt of the devil to trap you with the lust of the flesh shall fail for your sake in the name of Jesus. Wherever you had failed and caused the salvo to hit your soul hitherto, may the Lord by His mercy forgive you and grant you a new beginning in Jesus name. Look up to Jesus and be like Him in endurance. You will never regret. Be blessed.
