Caring For The Less Privileged

Focus: James 1:27 - KJV

27. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

2 Kings $:1-7

Today marks the very last day in the third quarter of this fate-filled year. All glory be to God for His faithfulness. On this day, the Lord is drawing our attention to the burdens of the widows and fatherless. Every man is ordinarily burdened; but the burden of the widow and the fatherless appears multiplied. Imagine a person used to companionship losing her companion and a fortified child losing his fortification and hope of a great life that hitherto flowed from a caring father. The father of the fatherless is saying the essence of the love He commands is for us to care more for the needy in this category than any other. When we do so we do it on behalf of God.

Elijah faced famine when his supply appeared to cease. He approached a poor widow with an only child who, of course, was fatherless. They both had lost hope of survival for unto whom would they turn? But Elijah’s presence brought them succor and sustenance for the rest of the period of famine. Elisha’s encounter was different. The widow at his time was of one of the sons of the prophet. Her children were about to be sold into slavery. She approached Elisha and the same showed compassion. His involvement made the widow an oil merchant. The acts of either Elijah or Elisha was not necessarily to bring money from their coffers, but they did not leave the needy comfortless. Neither of them got richer by it, but they had satisfaction in the Lord for their respective impact.

The Lord is saying to us today that our claim of godliness is not pure until we ensure we cater for the widows and fatherless many of who are languishing because of their loss, even as we abstain from every form of filth. There are many soldiers of the cross that have had to sleep prematurely whose widows and children are in pain of lack because of the demise of their bread winners. God is asking us to seek all such out and be a blessing of love unto them. As we offer them our spiritual blessings like the prophets, even to aid the manifestation, we are to put smiles on their faces as we offer them part of our substances to alleviate their current hardship. Where we are able to fix them in income yielding ventures, the better. In this is God served truly.

As this year is gradually running into its final quarter and lap, may the Lord preserve you and watch over you so that you may not die untimely or leave your loved ones prematurely in the name of Jesus. Every power that wants to make you fatherless suddenly are paralyzed now in Jesus’ name. The power that seeks to make you widowed are neutralized in the name of Jesus, even as the power that seeks to make your children father or motherless are extinguished now in Jesus’ name. No member of your family will be a candidate of welfare contribution ever, in Jesus’ name. In the new month, God will open a new chapter of blessings unto you and all yours, in Jesus’ mighty name.
