Do Not Lie

Focus: Proverbs 12:22 - KJV

22. Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

Proverbs 6:16-19

Everyone that lies is of the devil because the devil lied from the beginning. The reason men lie is for fear of harm or injury; and fear is by itself, a torment. When a person tells a lie, he does so to deceive for some illicit gain or another. Meanwhile, God is true which is why Christ referred to Himself as the truth. It follows that since God is true, He by all means detests a lie and therefore, a lie is an abomination to Him, even as it gives the devil utmost joy when we lie. In essence, those who live their lives by lying are separated far from God.

David, in a lying state, was quick to unknowingly condemn himself in Nathan’s imaginary scenario of a wealthy man with many animals taking the only animal his neighbor had to slaughter. If the person who did so truly existed, David would have so judged and killed him like he did the one who said he killed Saul and the other who claimed to kill Saul’s son. However, when his lie was uncovered, the natural thing to do should have been to submit himself for punishment; but since the liar’s mouth never bleeds, he rather sought forgiveness and would not be like Saul who swore to his hurt and would rather fulfil it in killing Jonathan for eating when there was a decree to fast. Nonetheless, God spoke to David’s abomination and the repercussions thereof.

The Lord is calling us out today to please lay aside all hypocrisies, forgo all lies and cling on tenaciously to the truth, if we must be on His side. When people condemn others of their misdeeds and cover up their own, they become an abomination in the sight of God. Even if it means death sentence, it is better to stand on the path of the truth than to lie. Anyone that tells a lie will need to lie some more to cover the lie and may continue lying indefinitely. David’s lie started from inviting a woman whose nakedness he peeped at, advanced it to sleeping with her, then to inviting the husband from the battlefield to obfuscate the result of his last lie, then to killing the husband in battle to perhaps support the lie that the husband must have slept with the woman and on and on, till God called him out. Put a stop to that lie now because it will never end and so that it does not end you.

Please pray:

Father, I thank you for the room to repent and receive your mercy whenever we find ourselves in error. On this day, please forgive me all of my errors in lying, which have made me abominable unto you, in Jesus’ name. I do not want to be separated from you ever again: please keep me far from lies from today, in the name of Jesus. Help me to stand for the truth at all times no matter what, in Jesus’ name. All the negative effects that lying had brought my way, please clear it all today, by the reason of the blood of Jesus that was shed for me, in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
