Don’t Defile Yourself

Focus: Daniel 1:8 - KJV

8. But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

Daniel 1:3-16

The devil is subtle and full of devices. He makes effort to get every child of God to compromise so that when they fall from the height, he might smite to kill and destroy. When he comes with his devices, it seems pleasurable and sweet an offer. For instance, who would have thought Daniel’s dining with the King or from the king’s table and delicacies was a bait to destroy? At times, it may not just be an invitation to a table. The table itself may be just an invitation to partake in sharing ill-gotten wealth. At other times it is an offer of the body. All of these things are targeted at destroying the victim. Daniel discerned the plans of the king and opted rather not to be defiled. That which he opted to take instead appeared lean and meaningless but at the end of the day, his countenance was better than that of those who ate from the king’s table. No wonder the Bible warns against receiving gifts. Some gifts are Greek gifts aimed at pulling the collector down. They appear lofty and good just like the bait used in catching the fish that has hook in it, hidden. Beware.

Friends, let our contentment with what God has given us be clear. Like Christ taught us, let us not be anxious about anything. It is thoughts of getting big or feeling good that the enemy capitalizes on to get us hooked. That enticing gift or invitation to dinner, lunch or party may be tainted to drag down. That seemingly juicy proposal or contract may be aimed at compromise. Some had been offered jobs they were not entitled to in the past only to be asked to do things that will compromise their stance in God subsequently.

SOLUTION: Beware of those offers that appear too good. It is not everything that comes your way that is God’s blessing. Take time to check with God to determine if the offer is godly and acceptable. Anything that is free as a hidden price tag. Run from free things.

The Lord will open up our minds to decipher what to take and what not to take in Jesus’ name. Every trap of the enemy to cause us to compromise shall be exposed and demolished in Jesus’ name. We shall never be victim of the devil in any way in Jesus’ name.
