Follow Good Examples

Focus: Hebrews 6:12 - KJV

12. That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Hebrews 13:5-16

The month comes to an end today and by tomorrow, the last month of the year is here. Glory be to God in the highest. From generation to generation, there has been people of faith whose lives serve as great inspiration for the up-and-coming believer. Even in the current age, there are many examples that the Lord has invested so much in, whose lives may be emulated. Nonetheless, for these to be emulated, they must be seen to have a trace of their livelihood to Christ our Lord who, as our foundation, is constant, being the same, yesterday, today and forever. Those to be followed must be seen glaringly as inheritors of the promise who is Christ Jesus.

Paul, a teacher of the Gospel and frantic church planter was recorded as being fond of raising disciples and followers whom he thought the way of the Lord. He specifically enjoined his students to follow him as he followed Christ. The bottom-line is, Christ is the solid foundation which no one can rebuild. Those who had come before Christ also have virtues that can be followed. Hence, their inclusion in the scriptures. Nonetheless, they are only to be followed to the extent that their ways conform with the teachings of Christ. Wherever there is a departure, Christ’s position is to be preferred and followed. For instance, Elijah was an instrument of reformation in the hands of God. To that extent he is to be emulated. But when it comes to his actions in roasting or slaughtering men out of frustration, it must be avoided.

The Lord is saying to us that even though we do not see Him physically, we have enough examples to follow to be in tune with the will of God. Therefore, we really have no excuse to live our lives in a way that displeases our God. Let us therefore, be careful to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, following Christ directly in all we do, borrowing leaves from them that had gone before who actually inherited the promise.

Please pray:

Thank you, father for making available to us examples of righteousness to emulate and most importantly, Christ the Author and finisher of our faith. From this day, help us to emulate good examples and stay on the truth of Christ to the end, in Jesus’ name. Please, do not let us be misguided into following wrong leaders of the faith in Jesus’ name. Please, do not let this month pass before we receive the blessings you have released for us in it, in Jesus’ name. And as the blessings flow in today, help us to utilize them for your purpose, in the mighty name of Jesus.
