Give praise to God

Text: Psalms 145:1-3

1 I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.

2 Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever. 3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

Read: Genesis 6:1-8; 7:1-10

Whenever anyone considered great is praised, he becomes swollen headed to the extent that he may kill for pleasure or give riches to the eulogizers. A typical example was in the beheading of John the Baptist when the king had asked his step daughter to dance for his pleasure and ask anything. Though he was not willing to kill John, but he became compelled to do so because he had promised.

God is greater than any known king. He is higher than the highest. He has the capacity to destroy every being in one fell swoop like He did in the days of Noah. He can kill and make alive. He demotes one and promotes the other. When He speaks, it is done. With the breath of His nostrils He parted the Red Sea. When He roars, the enemies perish. He needs no gun to discomfit His enemies. He dwells in heaven and make the earth His footstool. Even if you don’t believe what the scriptures say about Him, have you considered His deeds in your life? He is the One that has preserved you by His mercies from the fangs of the enemy. In your infancy, when your parents slept, He watched over you that you may not fall into the cold hands of death. When you could not express yourself, he made them know what you needed to survive that deadly sickness.

What and how has the Lord not shown His might in your life? His greatness is unsearchable. No matter how much we try, we only know a binge of it. Why don’t you praise the reliable God? He is not a being that can be bribed with praise to make Him swollen headed. But He inhabits the praises of His people. He cherishes to be praised.

If not for anything, praise God for His greatness over the affairs of your life. Praise Him and He will surprise you with His presence and the beauty of His holiness. Even if He was angry with you hitherto, your praising Him can turn the anger away.

To do:

Praise God in songs, tongues and with His Holy names. He is worthy to be praised
