31. Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
Psalms 66:17-20
It is important to understand that the mind of everyone in need is to seek assistance from where they can get it. More often than not, every man seeks the assistance of God in their situations and circumstances. There have been some in an impending danger of an air crash that started to cry to God even though many of them never related with Him before then as they lived care free lives. Unfortunately, the ears of the Lord do not process the prayers of a sinner as they are abominable to Him, except for the prayer of repentance. But when a man’s ways be pleasing unto God and he is a worshipper of his God, the Lord listens to, hears and answers his requests as a matter of course.
David earned the accolade of being a man after God’s heart by taking the pain to learn about and know his God. He knew for instance, that when a man regards iniquity in his heart, it creates a bar to his prayers. He knew that the thought need not have been acted upon. He knew that as he thinks in his heart so he is before God. Hence, he would rather ensure he first cleared his heart and being of iniquity before crying to God. And because he does that, his prayers are often answered of God and he is known as that king who was an example of being a king and the standard by which the later kings of Israel and Judah were judged.
The Lord is making it clear to us all that the fault of our unanswered prayers is never with Him but ourselves. The one who looks at the heart sees the abomination in our hearts even when we come to Him in prayer, and will rather that we purge ourselves first of our filth before assuming a prayer posture. Let us therefore, be thoughtful to cleanse our hearts and thoughts of everything that seems iniquitous, so that the Lord may find it clean and listen to our cries. A heart full of iniquity will make it difficult for prayers to be heard or answered.
Please pray:
Lord, I thank you for your mercies that endure over my life. I look to you, Lord for mercy over my past evil thoughts: please cleanse my heart of every evil that had been abominable in your sight, using the blood of Jesus, in Jesus’ name. Kindly take away every other thing that may hinder my prayers today, in the name of Jesus. Do make me a beneficiary of your benevolence in the place of prayer, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
Please share with others. God bless you.
