God Our Sufficiency

Writer: Jide OlaoreJide Olaore

Focus: 2 Corinthians 3:5 - KJV

5. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;

2 Corinthians 3:1-6

The minister of God is empowered by the Spirit of God. Yes, by that Spirit, he is able to preach the truth of the word of God unto them that are without that they also may understand the things of God and come to salvation. It is therefore in no place for any to boast or assume because the Lord has granted much success in soul-winning through his ministration, he is therefore sufficient in himself. Not at all. It is that the Spirit of God that understands the deep things of God has been his sufficiency in the matters committed unto him. For instance, the reason many others appear not to be making much progress is because they rely on the letter of the word. Unfortunately, the letter kills and it is only the spirit of the word that gives life. Hence, when the minister of God proceeds to dissect the word of God by himself, leaving out the ministry of the Holy Spirit, all he does is minister poison to his hearers. But when he incubates himself in the Holy Spirit before attempting to administer the word, he is assisted by the same Spirit to administer life unto his hearers and of course, much is achieved. For the avoidance of doubt, it is the Holy Spirit that knows what should be served each audience at a time. He is the one in whom the minister has his sufficiency per time.

Friend, the problem with the believer’s growth being stultified is informed by the kind of ministration he receives. Are you a minister and assume you are sufficient in yourself to feed the flock of God? Check! You may have been feeding them poison. Do you belong to a “flock of God” and you appear not to be growing? Check! Your shepherd may be operating as if self-sufficient and therefore doling out the letter only to you without the Spirit of the word. Unless and until you get served with the truth by the Spirit, you get malnourished.

SOLUTION: Test all spirits and hold fast to that which is true. If all you get is as stated by the letter of the word as written, be careful. You are not getting proper nourishment. If you are a minister and all you do is copy the sermons and teachings of others, you may be administering poison. Spend time to meditate on the written word for the position of the Holy Spirit. And until you have a picture hit you from the scripture, you have nothing to administer.

Father, make us the true carriers of your truth in Jesus’ name. Every time we settle to study and meditate on your word, help us to receive deep things therefrom by your Spirit in Jesus’ name. Please do not let us fail you in assuming we are sufficient in ourselves in Jesus’ name. We want to make it to the end. Please don’t let us mislead anyone in the name of Jesus Christ.
