2. Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee.
Psalms 91:1-2
God is holy and loves to stick up with the holy. It is not correct to say God does not love them that are not holy. Since God is by Himself, Love, He loves everyone despite their state, and works assiduously to ensure that even the unholy comes to holiness. Nonetheless, this loving God gives greater benefit of His presence to those who are holy. Simply put, can two walk together except they be agreed? There is no agreement between a holy God and an unholy individual. Hence, even for as much as God would have loved to keep the unholy in his bosom, the filth he bears prevents that from being.
David became a giant killer whilst for the bulk of his life he feared God and lived in holiness. A time came when as king, he felt larger than life and went taking the wife of his soldier and even killed him. This unholiness did not go unnoticed with God and David felt his separation from God. He fasted, prayed and bore ashes almost to no avail. Then he pleaded that God restored to him the joy of his salvation as right spirit is renewed within him. The right spirit is the spirit of holiness. It is they who possess it that dwell in the secret place of the Most High and abide under His shadow. The occupants of that space have their souls preserved. They have no reason to fear anything else since they dwell in the fear of God.
The Lord is asking us to come up higher from our not so clear ways and embrace holiness in its strict sense. They that be holy access the presence of God at will; or better still, they have God come into their space almost without leaving, at all. When we carry such a grace, no darkness can come near to trouble our souls. We carry the peace of God that passes all understanding, since we know the one in whom we trust. Let us therefore, be more intentional and practical in laying aside all the things standing between us and true holiness, including filthy thoughts.
Please pray:
Daddy, I thank you for loving me and showing me your path to follow so as to dwell in holiness. On this very day, I submit myself to your purging: please expunge from my being everything that tends towards unholy living, in the name of Jesus. Make me a candidate of your covering and constant embrace in Jesus’ name. Do not let the devil steal the peace of my soul by sowing tares in me, dear Lord, in Jesus’ name. I cleave to you in holiness; make me abide under your shadow forever, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
