God’s weakness

Writer's picture: Jide OlaoreJide Olaore

Key verse: 1 Corinthians 1:23-25 - KJV

23. But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24. But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 25. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

1 Corinthians 1:18-25

No matter how wise a man or a congregation of men can be, it is foolishness when compared with the wisdom of God. It is the place of God that man should multiply and replenish the earth which belongs to God and is a very wide spectrum. Men in their wisdom, albeit foolishness decided at Babel to remain in one spot and build a tower towards heaven. Hence, rather than grow horizontally and maximize all that the earth has to offer, which by the way is still underutilized but corrupted through misuse, man thought of growing vertically. The One who is Love and whose purpose is to bring man to an expected end which is to replenish the earth, decided to reshape the thinking of man and therefore scattered them in Babel. Today, the earth is full of the glory of God as man has been able to put so many things in place towards replenishing the earth as the Creator wants.

The greatest way to accomplish the purpose of God is to restore man into dominion over the earth. Man, after the fall of Adam was too used to being under the servitude of the devil although he didn’t appear to know it. But the thoughtlessness of man will not prevent God from achieving His purpose over the earth. Like the Jews in the scripture, many men are looking for miracles and signs while others like the Greek are full of philosophies. Where the miracles appear absent, men assume God is not there. Many run after the philosophies and high sounding phrases leaving behind the main theme of the Gospel which is that Christ came, died for the restoration of man into dominion and hope, and is coming back to take home the elect who will form the citizens of the New Jerusalem, the heavenly Kingdom. The Light of the Gospel therefore appears dim in their sight when it is not about prosperity, signs, wonders and motivational thoughts. Some even justify iniquity with the analysis of scripture saying that grace is available to live as we like taking our minds out of the law which they claim Christ has redeemed us from the curse of. As much as the redemption is true, Christ Himself whom the father says we should hear said He did not come to abolish the law but to fulfil it. He is the wisdom of God and therefore wiser than any man. God’s weakness in Him is stronger than any man.

Pray: Father, help me to embrace your wisdom alone and not that of men in Jesus name.
