Honor God Who Raised You Up

Focus: 1 Kings 14:8 - KJV

8. And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;

1 Kings 11:33-38

David was a man who honored God heartily and like the word of God says, they that honor Him, He honors. Hence, it was not difficult for God to raise David from the back side of the desert to make him king in Israel. Nonetheless, because God is a principled person, He vacates the abode of the iniquitous, just like His word says that they that dishonor Him, He lightly esteems. Even though He promised David a lasting legacy, it behoves Him to take the kingdom away from the house of David because of the misbehavior of Solomon which his son and successor continued. However, because of His affection for David, He left his house with something so that David’s light may continue to shine before Him. The main reason He departed from the promise of an enduring legacy is for the actions of the legatees who turned around to serve and prefer other gods aside the one that raised them.

One of the ways to dishonor God is to make preference of a being or thing above Him. Elijah recognized this and in the miracle of unending supplies, he cautioned the widow to cater for him, being the representative of God, first, and the unexpected happened. Perhaps the lady and her son would have died of hunger if she had turned deaf ears to the leading of the prophet. It was God that gave the lady even the last meal in her hands and she returned it to Him. But rather than take it, God multiplied it. The same is true for everyone that is on the side of the Lord: whatever we are, or have, is made possible by God and He demands His honor from us. Whenever we turn our backs on Him, He lightly esteems such and therefore, there are consequences. Had Solomon maintained some sobriety as king, not to divert his allegiance to other gods, God may have retained the entire kingdom for the house of David.

The Lord wants us to know that He is the one that promotes us and therefore we must acknowledge Him in all that we do. It is not unlikely to become drunken with wealth or power to the extent of worshipping the same or have people worship us for them. This is an invitation to desertion from God who will not share His glory with anyone. It is imperative that we also use our positions and wealth to honor God rather than draw people out of His honor through our wrong ways and paths like Jeroboam did, who inherited the ripped part of the kingdom. It does not matter who we are, all God requires is His honor.

SOLUTION: Honor God in all things and He will honor you in return. Those who dishonor Him are often times, released to the enemy to deal with as he wills. The place of remaining at the top is in honoring God ceaselessly.

Please pray:

·      Give thanks to God for getting you to the level you currently occupy in life

·      Ask God to please show you mercy and not allow the enemy to dethrone you for your dishonoring Him in the past

·      Ask God to please keep you in honor and continue to lift you high never to let you fall

·      Pray God never to allow you become an agent of dragging others to dishonor but honor God for the rest of your life

·      Ask for your daily bread from today and that God’s will be done in earth from now
