5. For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

1 Peter 4:3-9
There is a basis for the believer’s belief. It is on the truth of the scripture that flows from Christ. it is premised on the fact that it was never the intention of God that man should die and that the Lord has rearranged the situation by the death and resurrection of Christ to the effect that everyone that believes may in this world have life and hereafter enjoy eternal life. It is for this hope that the believer endures hardship and persecution to the very end, not breaking in the face of trials and hardships but ensuring he stands to the end. The hope that we shall meet with Christ again and be afforded life eternal is sufficient to keep a true believer up.
Scriptures are full of accounts of what the believer should hope for if we stand in faith to the end. Christ Himself said to us that He goes to prepare a place for us, so that where He is we may be there also. And to show that He meant what He said, when Stephen was about to die, He testified to seeing Christ standing to welcome him home. When Paul had done all, withstanding all manner of persecution and discouragement, he affirmed that he fought a good fight and had finished his course and then without equivocation, stated that a crown was waiting for him where Christ is.
Everyone that is born of God has the hope of eternal life. That hope is sustained to the end when we faint not in the face of tribulation. What the Lord is saying to us today is to know that the promise of eternal life and everything attached to it is no fluke, but something we should hold on to as the end itself is near. It will be double jeopardy for any believer to endure temptation for a while on earth and eventually fail to be a beneficiary of the promise of God for eternity. Let us therefore endure to the end so as not to forfeit the hope of eternity.
Please pray:
We thank you for the hope of eternal life. In all we do, please grant us the resilience to withstand the pressure of the world at this time so that we do not forfeit the chance to be with and reign with you in eternity, in Jesus’ name. Please keep us alive in the hope of the glory ahead of us, in Jesus’ name. Do not let us suffer double jeopardy ever, in Jesus’ name. Let our lives on earth be precious, devoid of troubles and please let persecution be lightened in our matter in the name of Jesus.
Please share with others. God bless you.
